MULTIPLE FACULTY POSITIONS
CORE AREAS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
This year, Louisiana State University (LSU) has received $7 million in new, recurring
funding to lead an Information Technology initiative that is aimed at building research
capacity and promoting economic development and diversification throughout the state.
With this funding, LSU expects to hire between three and four dozen new faculty in several
interdisciplinary "cluster" areas of information technology; in order to foster a vibrant
interaction among all faculty engaged in information technology research and
teaching, a Center for Applied Information Technology and Learning (LSU CAPITAL) also has
been established (see www.lsu.edu/lsucapital/). In one cluster, which focuses on the core
areas of information technology, we seek to hire faculty with expertise in both the
theoretical and applied aspects of networking, communication systems, and intelligent
systems. Within these broad areas of research, we recognize the need for expertise in such
areas as security; mobile computing; broadband networking; wireless networks; coding,
cryptography & signal processing; distributed algorithms; software systems; databases;
internet protocols & algorithmics; data mining; imaging & visualization; high.performance
computing; special purpose architectures; optical communications; and the human.computer
interface. We invite applications for tenure. track appointments at all levels from
individuals with outstanding records of achievement who are interested in establishing or
furthering a strong research program at LSU that complements other areas within the Center.
We expect to make several senior appointments and will consider hiring appropriately configured
interdisciplinary groups should the opportunity arise. Review of applications will begin
on 1 July 2002 and will continue on an ongoing basis.
