Directions by Automobile

From Washington, D.C. (Northwest/Southwest)

Take 16th St. North which becomes Georgia Ave. North at Maryland/D.C. line.
Go East on I-495 toward Baltimore.
Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
Turn right into Campus Drive, make an immediate right on to Paint Branch Drive and proceed about two blocks. A. V. Williams Building is on your right, the Paid Visitors Parking lot is on your left, just past the building.

From Washington, D.C. (Northeast/Southeast)

Take Rhode Island Ave. (U.S. 1 North) which becomes Baltimore Ave. North at Maryland/D.C. line.
Proceed through the city of College Park.
Pass much of the campus on your left and turn left into the campus entering on Campus Drive, make an immediate right on to Paint Branch Drive and proceed about two blocks. A. V. Williams Building is on your right, the Paid Visitors Parking lot is on your left, just past the building.

From Baltimore and Points North

Take I-95 South to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
Take Exit 27 and then follow signs to Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
Turn right into Campus Drive, make an immediate right on to Paint Branch Drive and proceed about two blocks. A. V. Williams Building is on your right, the Paid Visitors Parking lot is on your left, just past the building.

From Annapolis and Points East

Take U.S. 50 to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
Go North on I-95/I-495 toward Baltimore.
Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
Turn right into Campus Drive, make an immediate right on to Paint Branch Drive and proceed about two blocks. A. V. Williams Building is on your right, the Paid Visitors Parking lot is on your left, just past the building.

From Virginia and Points South

Take I-95 North to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
Continue North on I-95/I-495 toward Baltimore.
Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
Turn right into Campus Drive, make an immediate right on to Paint Branch Drive and proceed about two blocks. A. V. Williams Building is on your right, the Paid Visitors Parking lot is on your left, just past the building.

From Virginia and Points West

Take I-66 East or I-270 South to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
Go East on I-495 toward Baltimore/Silver Spring.
Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
Turn right into Campus Drive, make an immediate right on to Paint Branch Drive and proceed about two blocks. A. V. Williams Building is on your right, the Paid Visitors Parking lot is on your left, just past the building.

 

Directions by Train

Metrorail from Washington, D.C.

Take the Red Line train (toward Glenmont); transfer at the Fort Totten station to the Green Line train (toward Greenbelt); get off at the College Park/U of MD station.

Or

Take the Green Line train (toward Greenbelt); get off at the College Park/U of MD station.

The university's Shuttle-UM buses pick up university-bound passengers on the EAST side of the station.
Get off the Shuttle-UM at the "M" (the first campus stop). Walk east along Campus Drive (back towards Baltimore Ave.) and make a left onto Paint Branch Drive. Proceed about two blocks. AV Williams Building is on your right.

MARC from Baltimore (Inner Harbor)

Take the Camden Line train (toward Washington, D.C.); get off at the College Park station.
The university's Shuttle-UM buses pick up university-bound passengers on the EAST side of the Metrorail station.
Get off the Shuttle-UM at the "M" (the first campus stop). Walk east along Campus Drive (back towards Baltimore Ave.) and make a left onto Paint Branch Drive. Proceed about two blocks. AV Williams Building is on your right.

MARC from Baltimore (Penn Station/West Baltimore/BWI Airport)

Take the Penn Line train (toward Washington, D.C.); get off at Union Station.
Transfer to the Metrorail system.
Take the Red Line train (toward Glenmont); transfer at the Fort Totten station to the Green Line train (toward Greenbelt); get off at the College Park/U of MD station.
The university's Shuttle-UM buses pick up university-bound passengers on the EAST side of the Metrorail station.
Get off the Shuttle-UM at the "M" (the first campus stop). Walk east along Campus Drive (back towards Baltimore Ave.) and make a left onto Paint Branch Drive. Proceed about two blocks. AV Williams Building is on your right.

Amtrak

To Washington, D.C. (Union Station):
Transfer to Metrorail system. Follow directions above for Metrorail from Washington, D.C.

Or

To New Carrollton, MD (This station is closer to the university.):
Transfer to Metrorail system, taking the Orange Line to the Green Line, and following directions above.

 

Directions by Plane

The University of Maryland is served by three major airports:  Baltimore-Washington International (BWI), Reagan Washington National (DCA), and Washington Dulles (IAD) with BWI being the most convenient for getting to campus.

Baltimore-Washington International (BWI)
  • Located just outside Baltimore, this airport is approximately 25 miles north of College Park. Driving time is approximately 35 minutes.
  • MARC Train service is available from the BWI Rail Station to College Park.
  • Super Shuttle is also a convenient option.
  • Taxi service from the airport to campus will cost approximately $45.00.

Reagan Washington National (DCA)
  • Located in Arlington, Virginia, this airport is located about 15 miles south of College Park. Travel can be slow through downtown Washington, D.C. during rush hours; approximate driving time is 40 minutes.
  • You can take the Metrorail from the airport. Take the Yellow Line (toward Mt. Vernon Square), transferring to the Green Line (toward Greenbelt), and get off at College Park/U of MD station. Follow remaining directions above under Directions by Train.
  • Super Shuttle is also a convenient option.
  • Taxi service from the airport to campus will cost approximately $50.00.

Washington Dulles International (IAD)
  • Located near Herndon, Virginia, this airport is about 35 miles southwest of College Park. Driving time is approximately one hour.
  • Bus service is available to take you to the West Falls Church Metrorail station where you will take the Orange Line (toward New Carrollton), transferring to the Green Line (toward Greenbelt), and get off at College Park/U of MD station. Follow remaining directions above under Directions by Train.
  • Super Shuttle is also a convenient option.
  • Taxi service from the airport to campus will cost approximately $60.00.
