How do I access umiacs.umd.edu outside AVW? markd@umiacs.umd.edu: Some of the machines here require the "keyboard interactive" authentication method to login, this should be an option in your SSH client. If the option is not available, try downloading the latest version of the SSH client you're using. If your client simply does not support it, I can provide an SSH client from ssh.com that does. >From home I'm using an older version of SecureCRT to log into one of the SunRay servers (raysrv1 or raysrv2) and then from there I can log into any of the CLIP machines. By default, telnet has been disabled on all UMIACS hosts for security reasons. Please let me know if you're still having problems, thanks. Mark ------------------ ---------------- Edit -> Settings: Profile --> Connection --> Authentication --> click "new" icon --> insert "Keyboard interactive" --> click "arrow up" icon to push it forward ---------------- --------------------- Mark: "umiacs.umd.edu" refers to the entire UMIACS domain, not a single machine. If you want to login to a UMIACS machine you need to specify [machine_name].umiacs.umd.edu. For instance, the CLIP machines are sometimes refered to as dessert machines, because they have dessert names such as sorbet, gelato, or cheesecake. If you wanted to log into sorbet then the full host name would be sorbet.umiacs.umd.edu. Here is a complete list of the CLIP machines you can log into, I recommend using the any of the first 9 on the list: http://sparky.umiacs.umd.edu:8000/clip/machines.wiki?cmd=get&anchor=Machines
